Legacy forms and workflows modernization for migration readiness

A business unit depended on legacy forms and workflows that could not be safely ignored during the Microsoft 365 migration plan.

The challenge

InfoPath forms, Nintex workflows, and SharePoint Designer dependencies supported approvals, notifications, and operational routing. The team needed a replacement plan that avoided a rushed rebuild during cutover.

Our approach

  • Inventoried forms, workflow associations, data connections, triggers, approvals, service accounts, and downstream reporting dependencies.
  • Grouped assets into retire, rebuild, redesign, consolidate, or temporarily support categories.
  • Defined Power Apps and Power Automate replacement patterns with environment, DLP, ALM, and monitoring considerations.
  • Prepared a phased modernization backlog aligned to SharePoint migration waves.

Outcomes

  • Stakeholders understood which legacy dependencies were truly business-critical.
  • The migration plan included modernization sequencing instead of discovering blockers late in the project.
  • Power Platform replacements were designed with supportability and governance in mind from the beginning.
